I'm very happy with Medium's momentum and direction, but I'm also happy I am no longer Medium-first, Medium-only. Building entirely on a platform you don't control is madness.
HALLELUJAH! Thank you for vocalizing this. As a newish writer, the environment we are in feels like a giant monster that is inhaling me. Often thoughts of doubt and overwhelm make me think "Why should I bother" or "Why start now?" Or "Does it matter?" This week's writing leaves me with the feeling to stay consistent on the course, keep going, and not all change will stay. Perhaps we will evolve alongside it. Thanks, Justin!
I was so happy to see Medium’s direction as well. I think it echoes what readers want, so is applicable to what Substack work people want to subscribe to or pay for.
Really appreciate how honest you are about the continued platform destruction. It seems pretty obvious but I feel many are just continuing on. (Like my client asked me about their Twitter strategy)
The piece ok switching to Ghost was SO helpful. I hope to switch over when I have more time. Substack at least works for now.
I don't write "content"- I write stories and essays. I haven't bought into the Tech Brothers' Kool-Aid- the world existed long before they did and it'll be here after they're all dead.
Saving Frequently Isn’t The Only Way To Backup Your Writing

Thanks for the Medium day plug!

I love this : “no one really cares about content”. So true! Way to say it like it is
