I'm new here, with one post, and honestly not sure I'm staying. I just want to send out a newsletter and engage with my subscribers. Period. Everything else, chat, notes etc just feels overwhelming and diluting the experience. Ghost is looking more appealing by the day!
I have other projects to do first but I’m moving to Ghost when things quiet down a bit. Substack is too social for me now- I didn’t get on here so that I would lose engagement to notes or gain vanity metric subscribers from notes. I want genuine connection with writers I follow and writers who follow me- nothing else. And I saw the interview and it, too, further confirmed my desire to move. I have no interest in writing on a platform that has no parameters in place for hate speech moderation in a place like Notes
I’m enjoying notes. There’s a little hucksterism happening, but by and large, it’s been a positive experience. It’s also meant less time on Twitter for me, which is good all around.
Looking forward to your deeper dive next week. I share your concerns about content moderation and have seen some Notes complaining about the lack of it there.
I posted an introductory Note and created a profile, but haven’t spent much time there. I’m very glad I didn’t sent an invite to my subscribers encouraging them to join me there!
I read the transcript of the interview with Substack’s CEO that you linked to, and agree it was horrifying.
I loved Substack before chat and Notes were added. As others have said, I just want to sent out a weekly newsletter and reply to comments on it, not also have to chat or post Notes!
Like others have said, I came to substack to write a newsletter. It’s starting to make me feel dizzy and I’m not really motivated to keep it going. Definitely not every week. Why do companies have to ruin a good thing?
Good on you for taking a healthy break. It helps with creativity and prevents from burning out. I went for a run this morning in the rain, I can’t take a long break from exercising otherwise I will pay the price :)
I have been on Substack for 3 months only but I’m following your journey to learn about other options.

It seems as if there is too much too soon. I am with Dawn, I just want to write and send out my newsletter to people who will benefit from it.

I love tennis. Is this also on Medium where I can engage more meaningfully, especially about content moderation issues?
I'm actually digging notes personally. Feels a little stickier than Mastodon.
