Have to agree that metrics can be a distraction . I like the idea that what performs best will perform best every time, but that’s not always reality- and it limits what one can write about. At the end of the day, I don’t want numbers limiting what I write about. Thanks for the heads up on Ghost!
100,000 followers is very impressive! At the same time, I agree with you that metrics are a distraction. I get depressed when I look at mine. My number of followers on Medium is growing steadily; I get a few new ones almost every day. But that’s not increasing my views, reads, or earnings. There’s also no clear pattern or way to predict which articles will get the most views or reads.
Congrats! I think you have valuable insights and do a great job creating community. This is why you have 100k! Thanks for all you’re giving to us readers.
Same here. If stats for a post don’t look great, do I regret writing it or will it prevent me from tackling the topic again? No. How do you approach what you write for Medium versus Substack? I have not tackled Medium yet. Thanks!
I still write most everything out by hand first. If not the entire newsletter, then at least the outline. And I write those on recycled teletype paper from the printer next to my work desk. Same story for "idea capture" or other notes. I found that with Notion all I was doing was throwing more & more stuff on a digital pile in case I wanted to use it "some day."

Congratulations! That's an awesome milestone.

I still write by hand, then I type. As to metrics, they can consume your time...a waste of time.
